1901 Census Head of Households [Portstewart, Portrush Urban & Coleraine]
This web site holds a transcription of the heads of household [1901 Census Form B] for the Portstewart , Portrush, and Coleraine areas in 1901. Fiona North also offers a service to researchers who wish to obtain a copy [either a scan or a photocopy] of the individual family 1901 census [Form A] which shows much more information for all members of the family. Maps of the townlands [taken from the Griffiths Maps] are available as is a scan of the Griffiths Evaluation Books.
This information is available to any researcher free at the Local Studies Section of the Ballymena Library [I must thank their excellent service] and can also be found at PRONI in Belfast [MIC/354/5]. The original census is held in the National Archives in Dublin. Permission has been sought to publish this information from the National Archives. I will travel to these libraries to obtain the information for you and the fee I charge is for this service.
To identify the forms you want you can search by townland or surname above. You can then add the form to your cart and pay securely electronically using PayPal. If you have a problem with this please just email me and we can discuss alternative methods of payment [fiona_lorraine@hotmail.com]. It costs £5 for each lookup and you may expect to receive the information within 4 working days. If you have a large number of requests [more than 7] email me to discuss a discount. Some townlands are due to be added to the database. Look out for Coleraine and Portrush coming soon. Ask me if you want anything else on-line!
Please note that sometimes the records are difficult to transcribe and where this is the case a question mark is used to indicate this fact. See my own family research project at Research into Palmers of Northern Ireland
I also offer a service to locate families living at the time of the Griffiths evaluation in Ireland [see background map] in the 1850s-1860s. I can also look up church records in the Coleraine Library.
